One thing about reviews on this site, please don't put any spoilers into the review.

Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest - Hottish, overall it was an entertaining film, but at times I found it too slapstick for my cup of tea. Mr Depp was very good as Capt Jack. Would advise watching the first one to remind yourself what happened.

Pirates of the Caribbean… Worlds End… http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/piratesofthecaribbeanatworldsend/p3_medium.html

A pal of mine sent me a his short synopsis on this film… “Take a pillow so you’re comfortable when you fall asleep or drink a few red bulls if you want to stay awake YAWN fest!!
Too long, too slow and the worst of the 3 films by far. Plain boring. Yes there are a few laughs and a few good action scene but generally a HUGE let down. If you thought Pirates 2 was a let down and wasn't as good as the first then you haven't seen anything yet. If you can be arsed to sit through 10 mins of credits then there's a bit more after the credits. That wasn't anything to write home about either. I can't see a summer blockbusters being this disappointing. Only plus point was the Die Hard 4.0 trailer. Man John McClain is going to hurt some people this summer.”
Having read this little review by my man Ju, I have to say there is not much more to add to be honest. I went to see this film with my mate Wren who had said to me in the morning, as we’d had a late and very heavy alcohol fused night before, and I quote “I’ve never fallen asleep in the pictures” …. well 15 minutes into the film I was given Wren the first of many nudges to keep the snoring at bay… in a word Pirates III was “Poor”… I really didn’t like Pirates II and Pirates III wasn’t much better, one thing Ju forgot to mention is that with amount of additional characters within the film compared to the first two it kinda got quite complicated at times. The premise of the film I think was that Capt Jack Sparrow had to be rescued from World’s End because he was one of the nine pirates who had to donate something to release a being that would save the pirate world from the advancing british forces, and it was about them all getting to the meeting of the nine…. I’m glad I saw it on the big screen as there were some super special effects though some made me think they were only in the film so that someone could show off their new fangled FX toy. Would I buy this film on DVD…. Nope not at all, if in a few years time I see the box set in a charity shop I might buy it then, but only then. Out of 10 I’d have to give this film 6 at best, I really didn’t like this film and I sincerely hope they don’t make another one, as it will not be gracing the pages of this website as I won’t be watching it. But if someone else submits a review of course I’ll post it out there

Premonition http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/premonition/watch_medium.html

This is a fast paced action packed film, that is a must see. The film stars Sandra Bullock who plays a wife, who has reoccurring dreams that her husband is dead then alive then dead. The twist and turns of this movie will keep you dripped to the very end. the movie managing to tell several different stories from the prospective's of the different characters, without becoming too confusing.

everyone will enjoy this movie!!!

The Prestige...  Loved this film. I didn't know much about it and was pleasantly surprised. The film stars Hugh Jackman (Wolverine in X Men) and Christian Bale (Batman in Batman Returns) and as a bit of a superhero fan I couldn't help think this was The Wolverine vs The Batman, as in this film Jackman and Bale play magicians who are rivals for various reasons which become apparent as the film goes on. It's set in the 1800's and gives you a feel for how magicians were revered in those days. If I had to pick at the film I would say, you def need to be in the mood for a reasonable heavy film, though the film itself isn't heavy, it does contain alot of flashbacks interplayed with current film events. If you're not focused it can get a little confusing as to what is flashback and what is in the film's current day. I liked the fact there was reference to real people of that time like Edison, Faraday to name but two. I won't tell you what happens in the end, all I'm gonna say is the ending was brilliant, so even if it's hard work you do need to watch the whole film, and watch out for the word Prestige... would I get this on DVD, more than likely as I'd hope there would be a few documentaries about magic in the past and present, which is something that does intrigue me. This def isn't Paul Daniels Magic Show.

RABBIT FEVER .... I knew nothing about this film when I went to see it, to be honest I only went to see it because I needed to kill some time as there were engineering works on the line. I have to say I'm glad there were engineering works, because this film is a classic. It is basically a fictional film about the addiction that many women have of using their Rampant Rabbit Vibrators... It was filmed in the styel of The Office so a bit like a documentary. As to how of the information was fact or fictional I'm not sure, but it was a very well done film, and more importantly it was a fun fun film, in my books a def must see, though whether you need to go to the cinema to see it, that's debatable. I have a personal view that the cinema is only worth going to if the film is a massive special effect type film like Superman, Miami Vice, Star Wars and the like. A basic comedy I don't think warrants a cinema trip, but I woudl def say this film is worth a watch at some point in your life.

RAMBO 2008

Kick ass Johnny

I have to thinking back to 80's and the earlier Rambo films, with quality lines like.... "I want my country to love me as much as I love it..." and "They drew First Blood" not forgetting.. "How will you live?"... "Day by day"... I went to see this 2008 version of Rambo with the same main star Sly Stallone and was thinking surely his past is now, it was like 1982 when First Blood came out...and I have to say thinking back to the previous Rambo films this film did what it said on the tin, pure action film with a very very loose storyline.....if you're an action film fan, you should pencil this film in a must see film.

The premise of the film is that John Rambo is living it up in Thailand when a Christian Charity group ask him to take up river to war torn Burma, he declines, but after some fluttering eyelids from the only female in group, he decides to take them, en route they come across some pirates, who decide to cross John Rambo, which really isn't a good idea. After dropping them off he returns home, only to learn that they have been captured and a rescue mission is mounted. Rambo joins up with the mercenaries and it all goes pretty smoothly until the rescue gets discovered..... then all hell breaks loose.

To be honest I could go into how good or bad in this case the acting was, but come on you don't expect to see quality acting in a Rambo film, that said, some of the acting was ok, though a lot of the characters weren't every deep but you weren't going to get that in a 90 minute film, but one thing you did get was blood and guts... and I mean a lot of blood and guts. If you were unaware of how harsh war really is or the fact then if a high velocity bullet hits you, you will not survive... then you need to see this film.

Would I see this film again, absolutely, I loved this film it was good old fashioned escapism, his the good guy and his bad guy... and you..... you're the weasel whose gonna get his assed kicked. Would I buy this on DVD, to be honest I probably will, though I'm guessing there will be a re-release of the previous 3 films in a box set, so I'll be looking out for that. Out of 10, I'd give this film an 8.5/10.

The Return - http://www.apple.com/trailers/rogue_pictures/thereturn/trailer/

This film commenced with a journey back in time of a little girl in a fair ground nearly being abducted by a stranger… next scene races into present day at that little girl has grown in a character played by Sarah “Buffy” Geller…

The premise of the film revolves around Buffy and the flash backs she keeps having of her child hood and also of what seems to be a murder…. The actual film itself isn’t really the kind of film I would normally watch, but I found this film ok, though slow moving, it was pretty good and building and releasing the tension. It would lead you down one path, but you come out at a different conclusion form what you thought.

For me the film didn’t release the answers to obviously, though I’m sure there are some people who will have worked out the ending before the film ended. It is definitely a film that may spook a few people, especially when you consider there aren’t many people in the film.

The film kind of reminded me of Saw, not that the story was similar, just in the way the film was shot and panned out…

Would I buy this film on DVD, no not at all, but that is only because it really isn’t my type of film.  For me I’d give this film 6 out of 10… but as I said is just isn’t my type of film.
