Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/teenagemutantninjaturtles/trailer1/tmnt_medium.html
When I saw the above trailer for this film I was pretty excited because as a comic book fan I’d always been a Turtles fan, and have seen the first live action Turtles film which though tongue in cheek was pretty good, I never saw the next two so can’t comment on them, but I def think making this film as a cartoon was a very good idea, especially considering how it came out in the end. The premise of the film is that rat from the east had ended up in the sewers had mutated into a speaking larger than you average rat and he used to belong to a Ninja master and he had picked up his masters techniques, also 4 turtles had been thrown in the sewers and this rat (Splinter) had taken these turtles who had also mutated and taught them the ways of the Ninja, they are named after famous late artists… Donatello, Leonardo, Michel Angelo and Raphael. In this particular film and ancient warrior had unleashed a power that gave him immortality and now some 3000 years later he wanted to reverse what had happened to him…. What made this film for me carry more weight was the fact that Patrick Stewart was doing the voice for this particular warrior. The eldest turtle had been sent away to make him a better leader, he returns and has to win the respect of his brothers once again whilst trying to stop the destruction of earth caused by this warriors dream to become mortal once again. To be honest considering this was a cartoon, the storyline was pretty solid and address a fair few major issues, and also the fighting scenes were really really well done. I would recommend this for adult viewing and no you don’t need to borrow you sister’s son. Would I buy this on DVD, yes I will buy this just because I like the comic book genre and this film has been very well done. I’d give this 8 out of 10, very good film.
300 ... - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/300/trailer1/medium.html
“Our arrows will blot out the sun” …. “Then we shall fight in the shade”
The above bit of dialogue is what made me say to myself this is a must see film, it was taken from a trailer I saw about 3 months ago, link is above. I went to see this film and have to say I was thoroughly entertained. Ironically BBC2 actually showed the original of this film the proceeding afternoon to me going to see 300 and I have to say that this is great adaptation of the original, though there are a few changes but it doesn’t make the film worse, in fact I think it may even make the film flow better. Now my initial feelings when the film started was “Oh here we go another film trying to hard to create an epic” but those thoughts were soon dispelled. The premise of the story is that The Persians are on a crusade to take over the world and are on war path to Greece where Sparta is based. The Sparticans are renouned for their fighting skills, so the Persians offer them a peace bargain but the Sparticans code is “No retreat no surrender”… so you can guess what their answer is…. Now having seen the original I knew what the outcome was, but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment. The film was done very very well and the acting was very very good, but best of all the battle scenes where big, bloody and awesome, but the film isn’t just about fighting, there are other things to be taken from the film like what is loyalty, commitment, love and tradition. I heard there was a lot of CGI in this film, but to be honest unlike other films you don’t even notice when and where this happens. I can see this film winning awards for special effects, costume, cinematography etc etc. The only thing I would say is that there were scenes that reminded me so much of The Gladiator. Gladiator is a modern epic, like Ben Hur was in it’s day… is 300 up there with The Gladiator… in my view absolutely, if not for just the fact it enhances the original three fold. In terms of impact as a one off film, it’s not better than The Gladiator in my opinion as the Gladiator I guess was the benchmark in modern day film of that era of time, just like Ben Hur was the benchmark in it’s day. One thing I would say about 300 is that it is a must see in the cinema film. Would I but this when it comes to DVD, yes simple as… but I can already see the special edition versions with the directors cut, deleted scenes and even a version with the original film on it, along with a series of documentaries about the Persian reign, in fact no doubt the History Channel will run some kinda series about it. Out of ten I would give this film 8 – 9. This is a must see film people.
TRANSFORMERS FILM REVIEW
Transformers... Inside the Robot
About two years ago was when I first saw the advert for Citroen Cars where the car changes into a massive robot and starts dancing, it was about the International Goose informed me one night whilst I was doing the greet and meet set at the late Libertys Nightclub, there were plans of making a Transformers movie, but I’m guessing the film has been in production for far more than two years. Was I disappointed by this film? Nope I really enjoyed the film and felt it justified the two years of excitement that I’ve had.
The premise of the film was that a long long time ago on a planet far away called Cybatron, to creeds of robots had a fight and in doing so destroyed their world and a cube thing plummeted throughout space and landed on earth. The power of the cube could change any mechanical things into a sentient being. The remnants of the two creeds headed to earth to get the cube. One creed, the Deceptacons wanted the cube so they could turn all the machines on earth on to their side, and the other creed the Autobots were out to stop them.
In between these two robot clans were the earthlings, specifically a kid called Sam Wickwicky, whose Great Grandad and made a discovery in the snow which led him to have the coordinates of the cube, though he wasn’t aware he had the coordinates.
The film moved along pretty well and I only had a couple of gripes, the main being a particular scene where Sam is looking for something and his parents enter his bedroom, this scene went on for about 20 minutes and in my opinion was really not needed, it was like they had added it for a comedy factor, it was the only time I got a little fidgety.
The other gripe was that there were times it got a little confusing which robot was which, it was like they were just showing off the capacity of their special effects and to add to that there were a couple times it seemed that robots had shrunk and then grown again…. This was clearly shown in one scene when standing on a building one robot tore another in half…. Oops a spoiler….
I’m very pleased I saw this in the cinema and would I see it again, yep for sure I def would. Am I going to buy this on DVD, probably will, but not essentially for the film but for the bound to have extras about how they made the film and the probable extra about the Transformers franchise.
Out of 10 I’d give this film an 8 due to the couple of gripes
UNTRACEABLE
Can't you find me When I saw the trailer for this film on Playstation Network (PSN) in December 2007, I was like, "Yeah I got see that film", thing is ordinarily I wouldn't really watch this type film as it's in the ilk of Silence of the Lambs in fact the film posters for both films were very similar… a picture of a female with something over her mouth…., but maybe because this film was based in the world of IT, it took my fancy, though the trailer pretty much told you what was going to happen...
The premise of the film is that the section of the FBI that deals with dodgy websites gets a tip off about a website called "Kill With Me" which is essentially a website that is linked to a device of torture to which a living being is strapped and the more people that visit the site the quicker the living being dies. As the owner of the site escalates from killing a cat to killing humans, the FBI agent assigned to the case is on a mission to track him/her down, but because the site owner is bouncing the IP address all over the globe they can't trace where the signal is coming from, but as the agent gets closer, it becomes personal between her and them.
Even though I'd managed to guess what was going to happen even before I'd seen the film, I still really enjoyed this film as the journey to get there was good, and pretty tense, there was no point in the film where I thought "oh please come on"... and not that I'm sadistic, I have to say the way some people got taken out was pretty unique and def made you cringe, thinking, “I def hope I don't go that way”.
The acting was pretty good especially the lead actress Diane Lane who, put in a poor performance in Jumper, which I reviewed a few weeks back, which is below. She played the her role in this film really well and added some great suspense, which goes to show she is a good actress, maybe Jumper was just a bad script for her role.
Would I see this film again, well I wouldn't make a point of seeing it again, but if I went somewhere and it was on, I'd happily sit and watch it again. In terms of getting it on DVD/Blu-Ray, then I'd have to say, nope, would not get this at all, the extras would have to be amazing for me to even consider getting it. Out of 10, I'd have to give this film an 8/10, as I did enjoy the film, though would not break a neck to see it again.
WANTED
When I saw the trailer to this film for the first time, there was one clip where a man is standing in the middle of a junction and a car comes screaming round the corner, the driver, who happens to be Angelina Jolie, kicks open the door, does a 360 spin in the car scooping up the man, I sat there and said “I need to see that film”
Well I have now seen the film and I have to say I was pretty impressed all in all. I’d found out that film was based on a graphic novel of the same name . The our friends at G.S. had told me this fact, but as yet I haven’t managed to get a copy of this novel, but I intend too.
The premise of the film is that an everyday guy called Wesley finds out that he is the son of an assassin who is the best there is, and he is told that his father has been killed and he must step up to the plate to take down the person who killed him, but as the film progresses he finds out that not everything is Black and White.
I really enjoyed this film and was quite impressed by all the actors, and even though they didn’t say much in the film both “Common” the rapper and “Marc Warren” of BBC Hustle fame, did really well, but for me the most outstanding actor, as with all his films was Morgan Freeman.
I was fully entertained throughout the whole movie, but I do know that a few scenes had been cut out the film or re-scripted, but no doubt they will appear on DVD when that comes out.
Would I see this film again, yes for sure I would def see this film again, and I’d probably buy the DVD too, though I’d hope there were a few extras on the DVD as in a few documentaries and so forth
The DJ Camstar score for this film has to be a 8-9 out of 10, good entertaining film, the plan is to try, and get a copy of the graphic novel now.
